Biological safety cabinets are typically made up of three elements: the outer shell, the working area (the cabinet), and the HEPA filter system.
1. Outer Shell - protects the user and the environment from harmful biological agents by using corrosive-resistant and easy-to-clean materials.
2. Work Area (Cabinet) - The area where the operator manipulates the biological samples. It is surrounded by the HEPA filter air exhaust system, which filters and removes potentially infectious materials and cellular particles.
3. HEPA Filter System - High-quality filters enclosed within a stainless-steel housing, remove harmful particulate and microbial contaminants.
The overall design between manufacturers can vary, but almost all models include these three essential components.
